Dr. Tander’s foundational medical education was completed at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1990. Further international exposure was gained through studies at the University of Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany in 1994 and the University of Bern, Switzerland in 1987. His specialized training in Pediatric Surgery was undertaken at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, commencing in 1997.
Clinical Experience and Leadership
His professional experience spans over two decades, with significant tenures at prominent institutions. From 2014 to 2017, Dr. Tander served as the Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Ondokuz Mayis University, a testament to his leadership capabilities. Prior to this, he held a lecturing position within the same department from 2001 to 2014. He also contributed his expertise at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Pediatric Surgery Clinic from 1998 to 2001 and at GATA, Department of Pediatric Surgery from 1997 to 1998. An important international fellowship was completed at Wayne State University in Detroit, USA, from 2006 to 2007. Currently, Dr. Tander is affiliated with Acıbadem Health Group, commencing in 2018. He has also held the role of Secretary General of the Turkish Pediatric Surgery Association, contributing to the governance and advancement of the specialty.

His research spans critical areas such as surgical management of empyema thoracis, alterations in Cajal cells in patients with small bowel atresia, and the efficacy of different surgical access methods for hypertrophic pylorus. He has also authored studies on the impact of single-port thoracoscopic debridement in children with empyema, risk factors for hypothermia in neonates, and the incidence and management of hazelnut aspiration in children. His work also includes investigations into the utility of peritoneal drains in uncomplicated perforated appendicitis and the use of glyceryl-trinitrate ointment for anal fissures in children. Notably, his early work includes research on congenital diaphragmatic hernia and its embryologic studies.
