Professional Experience

Dr. Mehmet Ufuk Abacioglu brings over two decades of distinguished experience in Radiation Oncology. His career trajectory includes significant academic and clinical contributions, most notably serving as a Professor of Radiation Oncology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine from 1998 to 2011. He also held a professorship at Istanbul Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine from 1993 to 1997. In 2010, he contributed his expertise to Neolife Medical Center as a Professor of Radiation Oncology. Currently, since 2024, he is associated with Acıbadem Health Group, continuing his commitment to advanced cancer care.

His dedication to neuro-oncology is highlighted by his tenure on the Executive Board of the European Association of Neurooncology (EANO) from 2010-2014 and his leadership roles within the Neuro-Oncology Association as Vice President (2013-2015) and President (2015). He is also a member of esteemed organizations such as the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Radiation Oncology Group, American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) CNS Working Group (where he served as President 2007-2010), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Turkish Lung Cancer Association (TAKD), Rare Cancer Network, and the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO). Notably, he received honorary membership from the Romanian Urology Association in June 2015.

Dr. Abacioglu’s contributions to the field are extensively documented through numerous peer-reviewed publications. His research interests span critical areas of radiation oncology, including advanced radiotherapy techniques such as Carbon Ion Radiotherapy for glioblastoma, dosimetric analysis of radiation-induced hypothyroidism, and comparative studies of radiosurgery techniques. He has published on topics related to central nervous system lymphomas, neuro-oncology research, bladder cancer treatment, lung cancer prognostics, reirradiation strategies for brain metastases, and the effects of radio-protective agents. His work also delves into patient quality of life during cancer treatment, with studies on rectal cancer management.
