Dr. OSMAN GUVEN

Dr. Osman Guven’s distinguished academic career began at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, where he completed his medical degree in 1978. He further honed his skills and knowledge, earning recognition as an Assistant Professor in 1987, Associate Professor in 1989, and ultimately a Professor in 1994, all through Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. His commitment to continuous learning is further evidenced by his specialized training, including advanced studies at the Minnesota Spine Center in the USA and St. Joseph Hospital in Germany.

Professional Experience and Leadership

With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Guven has established himself as a pivotal figure in Orthopedics and Traumatology. He served as the Founder and Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine from 1987 to 2008, shaping the direction of the department for over twenty years. His professional journey includes valuable experience at state hospitals in Turkey, as well as international placements at New Castle State Hospital in the UK, the Alabama Sports Medicine Center in the USA, and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA. He also held a significant role as Head of the Sports Health Sciences Department at Marmara University Sports High School.

Dr. Guven is an active and respected member of numerous prestigious national and international orthopedic societies. His affiliations include the Society Internationale Chirurgie at Orthopadie Traumatology (SICOT), the European Society for Surgery of Shoulder and Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE), and the European Federation of Orthopedics and Traumatology (EFORT). He is also a member of the European Spine Deformity Society (ESDS) and the International Bone and Joint Tuberculosis Club. Notably, Dr. Guven is a founder of the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association and the Turkish Spine Surgery Association, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to advancing specialized fields within orthopedics.

He has explored innovative treatments such as mosaicplasty for knee osteochondral lesions and examined the impact of hypercupremia on bone healing.
