Educational Foundation and Academic Achievements

Professor Flohé completed his medical studies between 1987 and 1993 in Aachen, Erlangen, and Newark, USA. His early academic excellence was recognized with an honors Ph.D. defense at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Rhine-Westphalian Technical University in Aachen in 1993. He further solidified his surgical knowledge by defending a doctoral thesis in surgery at Duisburg-Essen University in 2004.

Early Career and Specialization Development

His initial professional experiences included work as a practicing doctor in general surgery and traumatology at Julius Hospital in Würzburg (1994-1995). Following a period of military service as a captain of medical service in pharmacology (1995-1996), he underwent extensive internship training in surgery at the University Clinic of Essen from 1996 to 2001, culminating in his specialist qualification in surgery in 2001.

Progression to Senior and Chief Positions

Professor Flohé advanced to the role of Senior Doctor at the Clinic for Traumatology at the University Clinic of Essen in 2002. He achieved the qualification of a trauma doctor in 2004 and obtained the additional qualification of “Special traumatology” in 2006, underscoring his deep commitment to this subspecialty. By 2008, he was recognized as a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology. His leadership trajectory continued as he became Head of the Department at the Clinic for Traumatology and Hand Surgery at the University Hospital in Düsseldorf in 2009, subsequently serving as Deputy Director of the same clinic until 2014.

Academic Recognition and Leadership in Traumatology

Further cementing his academic authority, Professor Flohé was appointed a non-staff professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf in 2009. His significant contributions to the field of traumatology are evident through his active involvement in the German Society of Traumatology (DGU). He served on its temporary council (2010-2012) and as Deputy Speaker of the Scientific Council (2009-2011). Since 2011, he has led the Department of Emergency Medical Care, Resuscitation, and Care for Severely Injured Victims within the DGU, a testament to his expertise in critical care trauma management.

Advanced Surgical Qualifications and Diverse Experience

Professor Flohé expanded his surgical repertoire by acquiring additional qualifications in “Hand surgery” and “Surgical resuscitation” in 2012. His commitment to service extended to military operations, where he served as a military surgeon in Kunduz, Afghanistan, in 2013, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel of medical service in reserve. Currently, he serves as the Chief Doctor of the Clinic for Traumatology, Orthopedics, and Hand Surgery at the City Clinical Hospital in Solingen.
